The benefits of the policy of universal secondary education in Uganda.

Universal Secondary Education is a programme that was opted for during the measures of sustainable goals to eradicate illiteracy as a means of development. This policy calls for provision of free secondary education to all the children that have completed primary school. The policy has had an extensive benefits to Uganda as explained below.
Universal secondary education has helped lower, the level of illiteracy in Uganda. A number of children drop out after primary education due to the high price of school in the private sector. Parents find it hard to raise the amount of money that can take their children through secondary school. The dream of universal primary education is this shuttered USE thus enables the student to acquire better education and thus eradicating illiteracy.
Universal secondary education has promoted girl child education. Many a remote families priotise boys over girls. In incidences where they cannot afford school fees for both children, they let the boy attend school as the girls stay home. Some parents just don’t see the point in wasting money on girls. However, with the introduction Universal Secondary Education girls can have the opportunity to access school. The more girls stay in school, cases of early pregnancies and marriages are eliminated giving birth to woman emancipation.
Universal Secondary Education has also led to development of schools. Many schools especially in rural areas are started as a community imitative and thus the status is not as pleasing. For instance some children study under trees, unventilated buildings alongside the lack of qualified staff. However upon taking up such schools, government usually provide better infrastructure, qualified staff among other things. Government recently constructed building class rooms for schools under the “Nine Classroom Project” it has also provided equipment for laboratories, libraries among others. This has greatly improved the status of schools making them a better learning environment for children.
The policy has also boasted the development of science subjects in schools. There is a perception that science subjects are difficult. The teachers for these subjects are also few and demand high payment. However, government facilitates teachers and provides laboratory equipment for such schools in order to boast the student’s moral towards the science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, ICT among others. The provision of such equipment has improved the taking and performance of students in science subjects.
Universal Secondary Education has also promoted even distribution of school in Uganda. Private owned schools are basically situated in Kampala and the near by areas. The remote areas were left behind since they were not good places for the profit making in the school business. However, the Government through USE programme has endeavored to construct at least a school in all areas in the country. Every district has at least five schools that are accessible to children. This has led to the development of areas.
The policy has also reduced the level of school drop out. Many children are enrolled for Primary section but many still dropout before completion. This is because there do not see hop after PLE. with the introduction of USE, the enrollments are reflected in secondary school. With such an education, Uganda now receives a better and more productive population children after secondary school have acquired some skills to eradicate hunger, disease and poverty. They are more cautious with sanitation and means of survival. Some continue with university, vocational, training institutions among others. This is more productive kind of people for the nation.
